Functional Integration
Functional integration is the term given to combining traditionally separate units together in one to provide the same functionality in a single unit. ACRA CONTROL’s KAM-500 data acquisition system is inherently suitable for this job as they utilize a wide selection of modular plugin cards. Signal conditioning, GPS, video compression, communication I/O, avionics bus interfacing, and even network switching and recording functions are all available on standard plug-in modules. This results in significant savings in cost, space and weight as well as reducing wiring requirements and design complexity. It also eases the task of maintaining, testing and debugging the onboard system. The modular architecture ensures the system is future proof for emerging application needs. For example, moving from standard to high definition video would only require the replacement of a single card in the system.
