KAM-500 in a Networked World
Increasingly, networks are not just being monitored to extract data. They are being used to replace PCM as the data transport within the data acquisition system, e.g. CAIS bus, and to provide data to recording equipment and telemetry systems, e.g. via Ethernet based networks. As networks become the rule rather than the exception for data gathering and transmission, KAM-500 is ready to be part of those networks. With a modular construction and digital backplane it will involve no more than adding a smart sensor network interface module, or a module that makes KAM-500 part of tomorrow's data network, whether it is Ethernet, FibreChannel or FireWire.
Ready for the Future
With the Internet Revolution driving networking around the world at work, in the home and even on the move, the benefits are just starting to be discovered and felt. ACRA CONTROL have embraced this new technology, and have released modules that use Industry standard protocols such as Ethernet, which is found in every office around the world.
Ethernet can take the place of PCM as a high speed channel (up to 100Mbps in theory) both in real-time and memory download applications.
In the future it is conceivable that Ethernet may form the basis of an advanced data acquisition system. Such a system could allow:
. High speed data acquisition
. System re-configuration
. Downloading recorder data
The developing iNet standard is a forward looking attempt to provide the next generation of Telemetry and Telecontrol. When the standard is complete, you can be sure that KAM-500 will be ready to support it, and you can too, by adding a suitable module.
